Walking Paths
There are some paths you never thought you would have to walk down. Some that appear suddenly, while others appear off in the distance, beckoning us to approach with trepidation and uncertainty.
Walking down certain paths in life is inevitable. I didn’t say enjoyable, I said inevitable. It is part of life, it’s the twists and turns, the ups and downs, the victories and the defeats. It is the happiness and sadness, the joy and the grief. It is life, and let’s be honest, life doesn’t often play fair.
If you follow me on social media, you may have noticed that our family has been walking through a difficult season. I’m not sharing this for sympathy, nor am I expecting a response. My hope is simply that these words might cause you to pause and reflect on the paths you are walking, and the ones your feet will follow during life’s difficult moments
Our current path is one of grief. Losing someone you love forces you to step into places you knew you would one day have to face, yet when that moment arrives, it is still incredibly difficult. Maybe that is why I am writing this, to help myself, or someone else reading these words, learn how to cope with, and perhaps better navigate, this kind of journey.
The psalmist captured it perfectly in Psalm 23 when he wrote, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death…” It is a difficult path to walk, but we are not promised to be alone. As the psalmist reminds us, “Thou art with me.”
Your walk may be difficult. There may be pain so deep you have a hard time wrapping your head around it, but know this: God is with you. I know that sounds cliché, but He is, and He has promised to never leave us. What a comforting word to declare as you walk down the path you may be on right now. My prayer is that you will be strengthened in this season of your life, whatever path you are walking.
